Cocktail tools

Welcome here guys! 


In this first post, let us introduce the items you will need in your cocktail preparations!
They will help you creating nice cocktails or following our crazy receipies we will give you!
Don't be afraid if you don't have them all, we are sure you will find nice ideas to replace them!




Cocktails are fun, be creative!



Shaker
It is composed of 3 elements: a large cup, a smaller fitting on the first (acting strainer) and a cap. Very easy to use, suitable for beginners. Avoid glass shakers, too fragile and shakers prefer stainless steel or silver.


Boston shaker

The shaker comprises only two drums, one metal and the other thick glass and metal, which fit one over the other. You must then use a cocktail strainer to get the mixture into the glass. This is the bartender's favorite shaker because it is airtight and easy to handle.

Mixing glass
The glass is thick. It is used to mix the drinks to be served clear or not to be shaken (eg cocktails sparkling water). Otherwise, you can use a large glass (at least 60 cl capacity).


Mixing spoon
This is a long-handled spoon that achieves the bottom of a mixing glass and is used to stir the ingredients. It also serves to mix the beverage directly into a long drink glass. The handle of some spoons ends with a disk that is used in particular to crush sugar and mint leaves just like for mojitos.


Cocktail strainer

It is used to filter the drink shaker or mixing glass directly above the glass holding ice cubes. Stainless steel, it looks like a flat spoon, and has holes with a spiral wire around the bottom.


Electric mixer

It is essential to prepare exotic, sparkling cocktails or to have some consistency. Do not crush the ice with because it dulls the blades of the machine. Crush the ice beforehand by hitting them with a mallet after having wrapped it in an ice pack or a cloth.


Ice cube tray

Choose preferably hard plastic bins and not rubber because ice is easier to unmold. Also choose bins that make large icicles because they are diluted more slowly than small ones.

Mill ice
It can crush ice. Its base is equipped with a suction cup that keeps attached to the work plan to prevent it from moving when you crush the ice by turning the crank.



Juicer

It allows you to extract the juice of lemons, oranges or grapefruit, widely used in cocktails. You can also use a centrifuge to go faster.


Siphon

It allows, through the insertion of carbon dioxide in water, to get sparkling water if you do not have on hand.


Ice bucket

Ice bucket, preferably insulated, prevents ice from melting too quickly. Shovel and spoon can manipulate ice hygienically, without touching it with the hands.

Mallet
It is used for crushing ice or coarse finely (crushed ice). Otherwise you can use a rolling pin to hit the ice after being placed in an ice pack or a clean cloth.


Pestle

Very useful in the preparation of juleps, it serves including crushing sugar or mint leaves. There are different sizes, large can be used to crush ingredients in a mixing glass and smaller glasses

Cocktail Master
Cocktail Master (trademark) allows for cocktails floors using several density ingredients. More liquid is the alcohol, the lighter it is. It contains more sugar plus it is heavy and tends to fall to the bottom of the glass without mixing with other ingredients, provided that it is made very carefully.



Zester

Zesteur is used to remove the zest of citrus and groove in the bark. Some models incorporate both functions. Failing knife zester, you can use a vegetable peeler.

Nutmeg grater
It is used to grate nutmeg or other solid ingredient over cocktails.

Straws
Used for decoration, they provide the finishing touch to your cocktails. To use without moderation.







Measuring alcohol
They are used to measure the quantities required. There are different measures, the most common being 2, 4 and 6 cl.

Measuring cap
This is a special plug attached to the bottle. It allows a very fine adjustment spirits by delivering a fixed dose (2, 3, 4 cl, etc..)

Champagne bucket
It avoids the constant back and forth in the refrigerator. Filled with ice and a little water, it keeps it cool opened bottles.

Plunger stopper
There are different kinds of special caps for bottles of champagne and wine. They prevent evaporation and deterioration of the contents of the bottle....
