Quick history
Colin Peter Field serves it at the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz Paris: The price of the cocktail is only...400 euros! (14,000 Euros a bottle of cognac) and it has the particularity of being designed with a Fine Champagne cognac from 1865 (pre-phylloxera). The cocktail has the name "Ritz Side-Car " and Frank Meier created it in 1923.

The phylloxera is an insect pest of indigenous origin who attacks the roots of the vines. The insect is originating in the eastern United States, and has caused a serious crisis of European vineyards from 1864.
Between 1860 to 1880 the phylloxera has almost eliminated all the European wine grape. The rare cognacs products during the devastation had a particular taste for "truffles", and the Ritz in Paris had purchased a few bottles. He has taken over thirty years to overcome the crisis, by using rootstocks derived from seedlings Americans naturally resistant to phylloxera.

Let us know if you try it!
